Get Ready for Easter with This Amazing Faith Based Checklist

Here’s a simple Biblical Easter Checklist to help you stay rooted in Christ and not get caught up only in the worldly side of things:

1.    Read the Bible for the true Easter story. You can start with:

    •    Palm Sunday: Matthew 21:1–11

    •    The Crucifixion: Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, John 19

    •   Resurrection: Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20

    2.    Do your research. Instead of scrolling on social media, use that time to dive deeper. Whether through AI or Google, seek to understand the history and the heart behind Easter.

    3.    Go to church. Easter services are often powerful and insightful. You’ll likely hear sermons focused on Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection.

    4.    Listen to a sermon online. Whether you’re cooking, cleaning, driving, or biking, you can find Easter messages on YouTube, Spotify, or sermon apps. Or sit somewhere quiet with a notebook and take notes.

    5.    Watch a movie about Easter. Try The Passion of the Christ, Risen, or The Case for Christ—whichever one speaks to you.

    6.    Talk about it. Share what you learn with friends and family. Sometimes a simple conversation can plant a seed in someone’s heart.

    7.    Express your gratitude. Because of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made, we have the freedom to repent and be forgiven. That’s a gift. Imagine if, every time we told a simple lie, we had to sacrifice our best flock just to be forgiven? Jesus paid the price once and for all.

Personal Easter Reflection

When I was 12 years old, I had a moment that changed how I viewed my faith. It was around this time that I started to take God seriously. On Palm Sunday, I remember the pastor preaching about its true significance. You can read my post about that experience [here].

That same week, on the night before Good Friday, my mom picked me up late from a family member’s house that I was staying that week. During the long drive home, I was bursting with excitement to tell her everything I had learned about Jesus, why He was born, why He died, and how it all connects.

I began by telling her about Palm Sunday, how the people praised Him as He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, shouting “Hosanna,” and how by the following Friday, those same people were shouting, “Crucify Him!”

I went on to Last Supper, how Jesus sat with His disciples and told them that one would deny Him three times before the rooster crowed, and another would betray Him, leading to His arrest. Also, I described how on the day of His crucification, they mocked Jesus, the pain He endured, and the way He carried His cross, suffering for all of us.

The car was silent as I spoke. My mother listened closely, and I really felt like I was getting through to her.

Then I began to share how Jesus rose on the third day, just as He said He would, fulfilling the Scriptures that foretold the Messiah would suffer, die, and rise again (like in Isaiah 53 and Psalm 16:10). And it’s because of His death and resurrection that we now have the chance to be forgiven.

I ended with something very personal, I encouraged her to turn from her sins and accept the Lord Jesus as her Savior. I reminded her that it’s only through Him that we can be truly forgiven and have eternal life.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Looking back

Looking back on that memory now, I feel proud. Proud that even at a young age, I was passionate about Christ and especially proud that now I have this platform to share His name with the world.

I want to remind you of the true meaning of Easter which is the birth and death of Jesus Christ. Yes, it’s fun to enjoy traditions like Easter egg hunts and Easter bunnies in the U.S. In Jamaica, we have our own tradition, which is to eat bun and cheese. The bun is like a spiced sweet bread with raisins and dried fruits, and we pair it with a thick slice of Jamaican cheese (in my opinion, the best cheese in the world!). But even with all our traditions, we must always remember what Easter is really about and make sure we pass that meaning down to the next generation. So they can know that the ultimate price was paid for us even before we were born. In this world today we need Jesus more than ever and we have to until strong Christian values in our younger generation.

Can you imagine if Jesus never made the ultimate sacrifice? We would still have to offer our very best cattle in sacrifice , just to ask for forgiveness. And it wouldn’t be a one-time thing either. According to the Bible, sacrifices had to be made regularly. But now, because of Jesus, one sacrifice was enough for all eternity.
